An Open Group on recovery and healing from many types of loss & trauma issues.
The Healing Road Group is a holistic model for recovery from loss and trauma; this model uses the 6 Stages of Grief, the 4 Tasks of Grief, "The Wave" and "The Hamster Wheel", as well as the Biblical concepts of 12 step recovery as holistic tools in healing and recovery. The group process integrates wholeness found in a relationship with Jesus, through prayer to connect with the God of Creation as the source of healing, and through a relationship with a safe and confidential spiritual-recovery community.
Healing from loss and trauma, is viewed as a non-pathological process using these concepts, having the core belief that this is the process and way that our Creator-God made us, and intended for us to heal.
Healing becomes unbalanced through any number of addictions and related problems prevalent around us, through codependency impacted by loss and trauma, through the types of losses we experience throughout life, through multigenerational trauma, and through lack of knowledge or experience with the concepts of healing. These problems often affect our experience and connection to God and those around us.
There are similarities between the "normal process" of birth and death we each experience. By understanding what is "normal" we can cooperate with the healing process. When we understand the stages and tasks of grief we are better able to develop a plan to target our healing and recovery, and are more equipped to cooperate with God in this process. As we better understand ourselves in this process, we can use this information to reduce our risk of unhealthy behaviors (including relapse); and improve our relationships. Change, miracles, happen, because of this.
This model views our connection with God as well as our connection to a safe spiritual-recovery community as methods through which these concepts and processes of healing have traditionally been taught and passed on. Therefore increasing our involvement in a safe and healing recovery community will help our healing. The Healing Road Group, is run so as to be a participatory experience in a safe and healing recovery community. The Healing Road Group acts to support and reinforce the efforts of the group members to participate in outside spiritual-recovery communities, including a healthy connection to a church community of our choice.
