Alcoholics Victorious: 12-Step Program Allen Leigh
Friday, Sep 3 7:00 pm

Alcoholics Victorious is a support group for chemically dependent persons. By sharing our experience, strength, and hope, we encourage Christian growth as we slowly separate ourselves from the bitter and lonely trauma of alcoholism/addiction and its effects on the family.

The focus of Alcoholics Victorious is to provide a safe group environment where recovering individuals who have recognized Jesus Christ as their “Higher Power” can gather together and share their struggles and victories.

Believers struggling with addiction to alcohol/drugs who, although committed Christians, may be suffering in silence out of fear, shame, guilt, and lack of ability to trust should attend these meetings. Anonymity is the foundation of this program. What is said in meetings, stays in meetings.

Why a "Christian AA?"

Those who are familiar with AA may well ask this question. For believers in Christ, the answer is simple: we have identified Jesus as our “Higher Power” and we would welcome the opportunity to meet in His name to deal with the problems that surround alcoholism/addiction. The meetings allow us to speak freely of our relationship with Him, share our struggles with faith issues, and use intercessory prayer for our healing. Christians are NOT immune to addictive or compulsive disorders, and hiding our problems from our church adds to our “shame” burdens and hinders healing.

Those who have not yet placed their faith in Christ have an opportunity to come to know the true “Higher Power” spoken of in AA, finding an atmosphere of accepting Christian love in which to form a personal relationship with the Lord.

For those unfamiliar with the AA approach to recovery, Alcoholics Victorious provides an opportunity to learn the reality that there is a “spiritual” element in addiction that must be addressed through the true God. And here in a Christian environment, forgiveness and release from shame can be found so that we may approach our GOD with freedom and boldness.

In Alcoholics Victorious, the 12-step approach to recovery is combined with support from God’s Word, confidential sharing among group members, and loving prayers.

Hebrews 4:1-16
It is Labor Day weekend! We generally look forward to that extra day of relaxation or recreation. Sometimes we exit that weekend more tired than we entered it because of all we have attempted to do with our extra time. So just exactly what is rest and how can we maximize it? Come and explore this intriguing and elusive state of rest this week as we view it from a biblical perspective.

911:It was the Best of Times, it was the Worst of Times Rick New

Matthew 16:21-26
After nine years this date remains a powerful marker; an indelible memorial of a world changing event. On the anniversary of September 11, 2001 we shudder at the senseless waste of life, a gruesome specter of horror, while we exalt in the display of heroism and valor. Each aspect of this drama creates a vivid contrast of the best and the worst of humanity.

In such a display of good versus evil, when life and death is in the balance, thoughts turn to eternity and the larger purpose of life.

How does the struggle end? Will it end?

We will be exploring these questions this week.

An Open Group on recovery and healing from many types of loss & trauma issues.

The Healing Road Group is a holistic model for recovery from loss and trauma; this model uses the 6 Stages of Grief, the 4 Tasks of Grief, "The Wave" and "The Hamster Wheel", as well as the Biblical concepts of 12 step recovery as holistic tools in healing and recovery. The group process integrates wholeness found in a relationship with Jesus, through prayer to connect with the God of Creation as the source of healing, and through a relationship with a safe and confidential spiritual-recovery community.

Healing from loss and trauma, is viewed as a non-pathological process using these concepts, having the core belief that this is the process and way that our Creator-God made us, and intended for us to heal.

Healing becomes unbalanced through any number of addictions and related problems prevalent around us, through codependency impacted by loss and trauma, through the types of losses we experience throughout life, through multigenerational trauma, and through lack of knowledge or experience with the concepts of healing. These problems often affect our experience and connection to God and those around us.

There are similarities between the "normal process" of birth and death we each experience. By understanding what is "normal" we can cooperate with the healing process. When we understand the stages and tasks of grief we are better able to develop a plan to target our healing and recovery, and are more equipped to cooperate with God in this process. As we better understand ourselves in this process, we can use this information to reduce our risk of unhealthy behaviors (including relapse); and improve our relationships. Change, miracles, happen, because of this.

This model views our connection with God as well as our connection to a safe spiritual-recovery community as methods through which these concepts and processes of healing have traditionally been taught and passed on. Therefore increasing our involvement in a safe and healing recovery community will help our healing. The Healing Road Group, is run so as to be a participatory experience in a safe and healing recovery community. The Healing Road Group acts to support and reinforce the efforts of the group members to participate in outside spiritual-recovery communities, including a healthy connection to a church community of our choice.

Galatians 6:7-10
“What goes around comes around,” it’s an old saying but it is still in use because there is truth in it. Each choice we make has impact; sometimes small, sometimes big, and sometimes totally unexpected. It is the choice and the influence behind that choice that makes all the difference.
